audience reception Theory

 1) What is the preferred reading of a media text?

The preferred reading of a media text is the meaning the producer intends for the audience to understand

2) What is the oppositional reading of a media text?

An oppositional reading is when an audience completely rejects the preferred meaning that a media producer intends for their text and instead creates their own, often resistant, interpretation

3) How does the Harry Brown trailer position the audience to respond to the teenage characters in the film?

the trailer show teenagers as troublemakers, rude, and disrespectful.

4) Why might young people reject this reading and construct an oppositional reading of the trailer?

Because the trailer assumed that act bad when most don't
5) Write a 150+ word analysis of the McDonald's advert using preferred, negotiated and oppositional readings.

One preferred reading is that the meal will fill you up and that will not keep you hungry. The brand would make this advert so that the audience will feel eager to try this as usually, fast food is like a snack while a sandwich is more like a meal. However, an oppositional reading would be that the meal is very unhealthy and would make you feel ill. I think this because McDonalds is very unhealthy and in the advert the meal looks very oily and sugary. Also, there's a lot of calories this would make the meal even more unhealthy as it shows all the fat and sugar used to make it. Lastly, a negotiated theory is that McDonald's is a snack my parents used to get me as a reward. This shows that eating this everyday is extremely unhealthy and isn't made for everyday purposes or else you'll get sick.
