Colour Connotations

Denotation:

I can see a boy standing staring at the camera and he looks serious. Next to him is a text saying 'dig toilets not graves'. I think water aid is aiming to help get kids like the boy in the advert toilets and healthy resources.

Connotation:

I believe that the advert connotes that the boy is poor. I think this because the boys clothes look old and ripped around his neck. I think that the boy staring in the camera blankly would make the audience feel bad for the boy. The audience would react sadly to this advert as they would feel bad for the boy and other kids in his situation. I also think the deep meaning in the advert is the compony saying that if they don't get healthy resources like toilets, they will be in 'graves'. The word grave makes you think of death and sadness.

Denotation:

In the advert I can see a picture of sushi that's covered in plastic with a simple blue slogan and text underneath. The background is plain and white and overall there's not much to denote as there's not much to see.

Connotations:

The use of sushi as an example for 'food' links to the food from the ocean as sushi is made from fish and fish are from the sea. Also, the slogan saying 'what goes in the ocean goes into you' suggest that the plastic people throw in the ocean will be consumed buy us as we eat from the sea for example sushi. The photo showing sushi wrapped and made with plastic wrappers connotes the meaning of the advert saying that littering and throwing plastic in the ocean affects you and the animals in the sea. The small text talking about studies showing evidence of plastic being found in oceans proves the point that it's a serious issue and is affecting many people and animals.
